What do I need to bring with me to my rental?

Please bring a valid driver's license and a major credit card. A security deposit is required at time of rental, as good faith towards full restitution in the event there is damage to the rental boat or lost equipment. We require that the credit card holder be present in order to complete the deposit process. You must be 25 years old to rent- a boaters license is not required.

Who can drive the boat?

Any member of your group can drive the boat as long as they meet the requirements above. Additional drivers are required to present their driver's license, sign the rental agreement, and complete a briefing with a staff member.

Please note that the main renter assumes responsibility for any and all persons they allow to drive the boat.

What type of credit cards do you accept?

All credit cards with a 3.5% processing fee.

A 50% deposit is required to hold your reservation. 

If you pay cash on the day of your rental you will avoid the credit card processing fee. 

To pay cash on arrival please call the rental office at (518)644-9941 to leave a card on file.

Does the rental price include gas?

Fuel is not included.

Rentals depart with a full tank of fuel and when returned a dock staff will refill your fuel tank and the total will be charged to you.

I booked a rental and want to cancel. Can I get a refund?

Sometimes. Here is our cancellation policy:

1+ Weeks prior to the rental: Full Refund

Less than 1 week prior to the rental: No Refund; We do allow rescheduling of rentals in lieu of canceling.

What if it rains? Do I lose my deposit/payment then?

The weather can change very rapidly on the lake, and in the summer it is not unusual to see a couple quick showers before noon, morphing into a bright and clear day by the end of the day. However if there are unsuitable weather conditions in the forecast and you do not wish to take the rental out, we will reschedule to a date more agreeable for you or issue a certificate valid for 3 seasons. We do not offer a refund for early returns. Furthermore, as outlined in our Terms & Conditions, you are responsible for making sure you are piloting the craft responsibly, safely and maintaining awareness of severe weather.

How early should we arrive for our rental?

You should arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

Can I park my car?

We have a parking lot adjacent to our facility, parking is $15.00/ day per vehicle.

How do I reserve a boat?

Visit our boat rental tab to schedule your day of fun on Lake George.

By using our online ordering system, you can book your reservation as far in advance as you need. If it is within 30 days of the rental, we`ll collect the full amount at the time of reserving. If it is more than 30 days from the date of the rental, we require a 50% deposit. An email with your reservation details is sent to you with the rental agreement.

Are there any boating geographical limits?

Stay 100 ft shore. No, rentals are permitted anywhere on Lake George, as long as you are following the rules and regulations laid out in our rental contract.

Do I need to bring a cooler?

Rental boats are not equipped with coolers, it is suggested that you bring your own to keep food and drinks cold. We do have ice for purchase, so you do not need to worry about bringing ice.

Can I fish off the boat?

Absolutely! Lake George is a great lake for fishing. A New York State fishing license is required to fish on Lake George. We do not sell NYS Fishing Licenses, fishing poles or tackle but you may bring your own.

Can we bring alcohol on the boat?

Yes, but Towboat Lake George has a zero tolerance for driving under the influence. 

Remember to always be safe when navigating the waters of Lake George.

Are rentals permitted after sundown?

No. Rentals are permitted on the lake from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset. 

Daily rentals are due back at 4:30 PM.

Do I get a map of the lake?

Yes, a chart will be included in your rental.

Are life jackets included?

Yes, life jackets for all members of your party are provided at no additional cost. 

Children under 12 years old must wear their life jackets at all times while the boat is underway.

Do you allow dogs?

Yes, we are pet friendly! Please pick up after your dog! 

Please note pets are not permitted on New York State owned islands.

How long is the orientation?

It will take approximately 10 minutes to process paperwork and 20 minutes to complete the instructions with the dock staff.

What does the orientation cover?

We will be going over location and proper use of safety equipment, proper running procedure including Steering, Throttle Control, Lanyard, Trim, Blower, and Fuel Ports, maximum capacity of the boat, Buoy Review: 5 mph buoy, danger buoy, spar buoy, navigational buoy (RED and GREEN stay in-between)  

What if there is already damage to my rental?

You will go over the entire boat with a dock staff member and document previous damage. Please take photos of any existing damage to avoid possible disputes.     

I am back with my rental, what should I do?

Be sure to return on time! Once you arrive please float in the bay in front of our fueling station until a dock staff member is able to assist you into the dock. After your rental is complete be sure to pay check out with the rental office and pay for your fuel before departing. Ensure to clean out any debris or personal items when leaving to avoid a cleaning fee. There is a $100 late fee in addition to time for all late returns.

I came back and the dock attendant noticed damage, now what happens?

We will refer to the documents you signed and any photos taken prior to departure. In the event that the damage is not pre-existing a certified mechanic will assess the damage and write up a detailed invoice for your records. All damage will accompany a labor rate of $125.00/hour in addition to any parts purchased.
